Former All Black centre, Charles Piutau (25) has reportedly signed a massive £2 Million deal with English club, Bristol Rugby. Piutau is reportedly set to become the world’s highest paid rugby player as soon as Dan Carter’s £1.2 Million per season salary expires next year with French club, Racing.

According to the British Telegraph, the terms of the two-year deal includes a salary of £1 million per year, (equivalent of around $1.5 million NZD or $2.5 million Pa’anga) per year. Charles is the brother of ‘Ikale Tahi captain, Siale Piutau – who also plays for Bristol Rugby.

Piutau will start for Bristol next year in the UK’s 2018 – 2019 Aviva Premiership season. He moves from Irish club, Ulster Rugby, who he recently played for in the 2016 - 2017 Pro14 rugby tournament. He was officially named Pro12 Player’s Player of the Year in 2017.

The Head Coach of Bristol, Pat Lam, stated in a media release that the club was “thrilled” to have Charles Piutau in their ranks.

Lam stated “We’re thrilled to have an individual of his immense quality and experience to add to our ranks. As somebody who has worked with Charles previously, I know what an influential player he is on and off the field."

Charles Piutau told the British Telegraph, “If I am able to play a central role in delivering the vision that Pat has outlined for Bristol, then the challenge of playing for this club will be an achievement that I will be able to look back on, with immense pride.”

“Even more appealing, is the opportunity to do this alongside my brother Siale, my best friend Steven (Lautau) and the rest of the squad that Bristol is putting together.”

Pat Lam stated that Charles’ quality as an athlete extended beyond his ability to play rugby.

Lam stated, “It’s not just his ability to play fullback, wing and center, all at international standard, but it’s also his willingness to help and mentor others which will be a big boost for our young English players coming through”

“Charles is excited by our vision of ‘inspiring our community through rugby success.’ His determination and attitude to improve as a player and person are exactly the sort of world class characteristics we want in every player who pulls on the Bristol jersey.”
