His Majesty’s Armed Forces are currently conducting a two-week military training exercise called “Exercise Tafakula”. The joint exercise involves the participation of soldiers from the United States Marine Corp and Navy, the French Military and the New Zealand Defense Force.  An opening ceremony for the exercise took place on July 17.

A media release from the U.S Marine Corps stated that U.S troops involved in the exercise are members of “Task Force Koa Moana 17”, an expeditionary force from the United States that is currently visiting Tonga.

The officer in charge of the U.S task force, Gunnery Sgt. Michael Weaver, was pleased with the exercise.

He stated “It’s impressive to see this many different forces come together to train;”

“The opening ceremony set a good tone, and we’re looking forward to seeing how the exercise unfolds.
