A male police officer was suspended from duty on Friday, July 21, after reports that he assaulted another man in Nuku'alofa on Sunday night, July 16.

A criminal investigation is establishing the circumstances of the alleged assault, said Tonga Police today.

The police officer, aged in his 20s was not named.

No further details was released.
