Fjii's former Education Minister charged, trial in Sept [1]

Dr Mahendra Reddy, Fiji’s former Minister for Education who was charged with bribery and undue influence will have his trial set for September 6 and 8.

Fiji Village reported that it is alleged, Reddy on May 8 this year, in Rakiraki in order to influence the vote of Waisea Lelobo, the Manager of Ra High School, directly conferred or offered to confer a benefit namely a steady water source for Ra High School.

It is also alleged that he interfered with the free exercise or performance of a political right of Waisea Lelobo, relevant to the 2018 election.

The trial date was set by Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili on 11 July, and his bail extended.

Reddy had resigned as the Minister for Education, Heritage Arts and National Archives stating he wished to step down, while the charges against him by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) are heard.
