A 25-year-old man who was arrested in relation to the death of a 51-year-old man, whom he allegedly assaulted on a road at Ma’ufanga early Saturday morning, July 8, has been charged with murder.

Acting Chief Superintendent Tevita Vailea said today the deceased is Keuli Malakai who was living at 'Anana.

The accused who is charged with murder remains in custody to appear at the Fasi Magistrate’s Court on Monday, July 17, he said.

It is alleged that the assault took place near ‘Ahopanilolo Technical College, at around 1:00am. The victim was walking on the road, and the accused who was in a vehicle saw him and allegedly got off and assaulted him, resulting in severe injuries that included his head.

He died at Vaiola Hospital on the same morning.

The accused who has not been named until he appears at the lower court, had turned himself in to police after the alleged offence.
