Judgment on dismissal of broadcaster expected next week [1]

A judgement on a judicial review filed by the former General Manager of Tonga Broadcasting Commission Nanise Fifita against government, on the termination of her contract is expected to be made next week.

The hearing was held for a day and a half starting on Tuesday, June 20 before Lord Chief Justice O.G. Paulsen.

After hearing from counsel, the Chief Justice is expected to deliver his judgment in a week's time, at the Supreme Court in Nuku'alofa.

Filed on 17 May, the judicial review is against two defendants Tonga Broadcasting Commission and the Minister for Public Enterprises, regarding her dismissal and termination of her renewed contract on 1 May.

Fifita seeks the court's declaration that her dismissal was illegal.
