Thursday, June 15, 2017 - 19:18.  Updated on Thursday, June 15, 2017 - 21:00.

From the House by Pesi Fonua

The debate on a motion for an order for Parliament to tell the Tongan Government to Host the 2019 Pacific Games was further deferred until Monday, 19 June.

The House went into recess for two days, Tuesday and Wednesday, giving government time to respond to the 23 clauses in the motion before the House proceeded to debate on it today.

This morning the Speaker told the House that they had not received the Government’s response.

Procedure

The PM responded and told the House that he had the Cabinet’s response in writing with him, but the Speaker reminded him that the procedure is for Cabinet’s written response to be presented to a Standing Committee of the House before it is tabled to be read in the House.

He reminded members that the New Zealand Prime Minister, Bill English will arrive in Tonga this evening, Thursday.

The New Zealand PM will be in Tonga all day, Friday then leave Tonga on Saturday morning.

He declared that after breaking for lunch the House would reconvene on Monday, 19 June.
