A 58-year-old man is reported to be in a stable condition at Vaiola Hospital after being shot at a bush allotment in Kolovai on Sunday, May 21.

Police have arrested a 36-year-old man from the same village and charged him with grievous bodily harm.

Deputy Commissioner ‘Unga Fa’aoa said today further serious charges are likely to be laid against the accused.

"The criminal investigation continues so no further information can be released at this stage," he said.

The victim is alleged to have been shot by the accused using a .22 rifle, at around 5:20am.

The accused remains in police custody and is expected to appear at the Nukunuku Magistrate’s Court Thursday, May 25.
