Petroleum prices increase in May – June [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Tuesday, May 16, 2017 - 17:32

Petroleum prices will increase starting tomorrow, 16 May 2017 as approved by the Tonga Competent Authority (TCA) for May – June 2016.

Petrol, diesel and kerosene retail prices will go up by 5.60 seniti/litre, 3.64 seniti/litre and 4.54 seniti/litre respectively.

The retail price for petrol is 254.27 seniti/litre, diesel 250.10 seniti/litre and kerosene 171.57 seniti/litre.

The TCA says the increase comes as product prices rose more than crude oil during April because of the tightening of supply for products.

Petrol demand is relatively strong in the northern hemisphere as it moves into summer season where people tend to drive more. This puts increasing pressure on petrol prices combined with the impact of reducing stock in Singapore, an additional support for the market.

As the freight rate and the Tongan Pa’anga are steady the rise in product prices will flow through to increasing local prices.

The quarterly LPG pricing for June – September 2017 will be released mid June as well as the next petroleum monthly pricing for June-July 2017.
