Thieves snatch shop owner's purse [1]

Two men have been arrested and charged with theft, after snatching a purse from a Chinese shop owner in Nuku’alofa on 1 April.

Police today said the robbery took place at around 8:00pm on ‘Unga Road, after the 42-year-old woman closed her shop.

The complainant was crossing the road when the men came from behind and snatched her purse, containing around $1,500 pa’anga, a cellphone and other contents. The men ran off with the purse.

The same night Police arrested two men, aged 17 and 40 and recovered some cash.

The two men have been charged with theft, pending a court appearance.

The complainant was not injured in the robbery.
