PSA calls on Tupouto'a to reconsider new cabinet [1]

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Monday, May 22, 2006 - 19:00.  Updated on Friday, September 6, 2013 - 12:12.

The PSA will present a letter to Crown Prince Tupouto'a on May 25 outlining their concerns over the new Ministerial appointments and cabinet reshuffling of May 16.

Mele ‘Amanaki the Secretary of the PSA today highlighted two main agendas they will be proposing in their letter.

Firstly, is for the reconsideration of the recent appointments of Ministers and the Ministerial reshuffling, and secondly, for Government to consider and support the political reform process for the people of Tonga to elect the Prime Minister and Ministers.

"We want the new appointments of Ministers and the Ministerial reshuffle to reflect the right qualified people who are suitable for these Ministerial posts instead of appointing someone who has neither qualification nor experience in that relevant field," said Mele.

Meeting

Mele said the PSA held a special meeting on May 19 at Queen Salote Memorial Hall with other public servants to discuss these "urgent concerns" over the new Ministerial reshuffling and appointments and confirm their proposed letter that they want to submit not only to Tupouto‘’a but to Government as well.

"The outcome we hope to achieve from this is for Government and PSA to come to a mutual agreement on some of our concerns and meet with us, Government does not necessarily have to agree to all of our concerns but at least we from both sides can agree on a common ground," said Mele.

However, the PSA has stated it will give Government 14 days to respond to their concerns otherwise they would go on a national strike.
