A Ministry of Health driver (54) has been arrested and charged in relation to the death of a 60-year-old male pedestrian whom he allegedly hit at Ha’ateiho on Monday, March 20.

Acting Chief Superintendent Tevita Vailea said the driver is alleged to have dozed off while driving on Taufa’ahau Road carrying two passengers on a shuttle.

At around 5:50am, the driver is alleged to have swerved and hit the accused who was walking on the right side of the road to an early church service when the accident occurred..

The driver remains in custody charged with reckless driving causing death.
