Cyber security capacity in Pacific concerns new ICT working group [1]

Cyber security capacity in the Pacific islands region is one concern of a working group that aims to speed up development of Information and Communications (ICT) in the Pacific.
The group met at the University of the South Pacific (USP), Suva, Fiji for the first time 20 February and discussed ssues such as ICT infrastructure and solutions, as well as cyber security.
Chair of the Council of Regional Organisations of the Pacific (CROP) ICT Working Group, Professor Rajesh Chandra reinforced the importance of building cyber security capacity in the region, and said it was "one of the pillars and priorities of the working group".
The group lso recognised a need to prioritize ICT infrastructure and solutions to improve business processes.
The working group is looking at co-ordinating key ICT areas such as e-commerce, connectivity, e-learning and e-health and to avoid duplication.
The CROP ICT working group website/portal where members are able to discuss ICT issues was launched at the meeting, attended by representatives from various government and private sectors including Australia and New Zealand.
CROP ICT Working group plans to meet in quarterly periods.
