The 2016-2017 proceeding of the Tongan Parliament has a “soft”, and very brief closing ceremony this morning.

The King thanked the Speaker, the Prime Minister and Members of Parliament for what they had achieved during the year. He reminded members that to be able to maintain peace and harmony in the country, there must be consensus with the standard of education, the state of the economy, and the social life of the people.

King Tupou VI recognized the assistance from foreign countries to the development of  the country during the year.

He also extended his special thank you for all the love during this difficult time, of the departure of the Queen Mother Halaevalu Mata’aho.
