Man accused of helping prisoners getaway [1]

Paki Fukofuka is the 47-year old man from Ha’avakatolo who has been charged over his role in helping two escaped prisoners while they were on the run in Tongatapu on 31 January.

The prisoners were recaptured on February 2.

He appeared at the Magistrate’s Court on 9 February and was released on bail to reappear on a date to be confirmed.

The accused had allegedly drove Viliami Kupu and ‘Amoni Fifita to and from a shop in Kolovai, which they robbed at gunpoint, after escaping custody.

He is charged with conspiracy and abetment of crime.
