Tongan Legislature to open on June 1 [1]

The 2006 session of the Tongan Legislative Assembly will be officially opened on Thursday June 1 by King Taufa'’ahau Tupou IV.

The opening date was confirmed today by the office of the Speaker of the House, Hon. Tu'iha'angana.

The King who is currently in Auckland, New Zealand, for medical check ups is expected to return to Tonga in the second week of May.

The opening ceremony of the Tongan Legislature will be held at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall, and as it is traditional with the opening ceremony of parliament High school students from throughout Tongatapu will be lining the streets of Nuku...’alofa, and marching through the town to the Royal Palace.
