Scholarships worth around $6688 pa'anga were awarded by Spare Parts Zone Tonga Ltd & Autosaver on 24 January, to seven students to cover their tuition and school essentials at various secondary schools in Tongatapu.

The recipients were Taniela Pomana from Longolongo in Form 3 at Lavengamalie College; Stephanie Toutai from Lapaha Form 1; Papa Liseini Kafalava of Kolofo`ou Form 2 at Tonga Side School; Sione 'Osika from Hala `o Vave Form 4 at Tonga College; Paea Pohahau from Ha`asini Form 3 at Beulah College; Monalisa Telefoni Form 3 at Tailulu; and Leialoha Form 5 at Tailulu.

The scholarships cover their registration, school fees for year and school materials such as books and other essentials.

Managing Director Mohammed Razak said they initiated this program because they wanted to support young students who are eager to learn and know the importance of education.

The scholarship was announced on radio and 48 students registered. The company then carried out a survey and selected these seven based on various criteria, including the financial aspects.

In addition, two students in primary school were also awarded funds from the Managing Director’s own pocket to help with their school supplies and expenses.

"If these students use our scholarships wisely and do their best there is a chance that the company could further finance their schooling up to Form 7 level," he said.
