The search for a 46-year-old German visitor missing in Ha'apai has been called off by Tonga Police.

Frank Doblitz was last seen on Christmas day heading to a beach in Hihifo, Ha’apai for a swim. Tonga Police stated that both ocean and land searches had failed to find him.

The missing man and his Tongan wife Lina lived in Germany and arrived in Tonga on 13 December to spend Christmas with her family.

He was last seen by family members heading to the beach for a swim, with dark blue pants, goggles, diving shoes and an underwater camera, at around 7:00pm, when it was still light. He was reported missing by his brother in-law after he failed to return home at nightfall.
