Etuate Waqa

A former coach of Tonga's national rugby 7s team, Etuate Waqa (54) who died on December 7, was buried on Friday December 16 in Nasinu, Fiji.

Etuate was the coach of Tonga's national 7s team from 2012 to 2013.  

Under his leadership, Tonga won a bronze medal at the 2013 Mini-Pacific games and made it to the Shield final of the 2013 Wellington 7s tournament. Etuate Waqa was remembered for his vision to bringing Tongan 7s up to the same level as Fiji and Samoa. 

Etuate represented Fiji in Rugby League in the early 1990s. He was also an assistant coach for the Fijian 7s team that won the Hong Kong 7s tournament in 2012. Renowned NRL winger Sisa Waqa is his son.

Etuate passed away from a heart attack.
