A fundraising dinner held in London on December 1 has reportedly raised more than £100,000 pounds for the Jonah Lomu Legacy Trust, a trust set up for Jonah’s two sons Brayley Lomu (7) and Dhyreille Lomu (6).
Over 700 guests attended the event, including rugby legends such as former All Blacks Zinzan Brooke and Justin Marshall, Former English Rugby Captain Martin Johnson and current English coach Eddie Jones.
The Jonah Lomu Legacy Trust was set up after Jonah passed away in November last year. Jonah was only 40 years-old and had retired early from professional Rugby because of a kidney condition. It was revealed after Lomu’s death that he had almost no money.
The Jonah Lomu Legacy Trust [2] set up by the New Zealand Rugby Players Association made an online appeal for donations. The Trust is managed by professionals who are not related to the Lomu boys or family. The Trustees are: lawyer and chairman of the New Zealand Takeovers Panel, David Jones MNZM, Investment Manager John Phipps, Deloitte’s partner Doug Wilson and businessman and former All Black Michael Jones MNZM.
