A 33-year-man from Kanokupolu who tried to run from Police after allegedly breaking into a Chinese Shop on Taufa’ahau Road at Pahu on Sunday night, November 20 was apprehended in a chase.

Goods were stolen from the shop, which belongs to Mrs Ellen Yu and her family. Mrs Yu remains hospitalised with severe head injuries after being brutally attacked at her home in Pahu last week. 

"This is a separate case and has no connection to her attack," said a police spokesperson today.

The latest burglary occured at 10:00pm when staff who were looking after the shop had gone out for dinner. On their way back they saw the shop's door open so they reported the break-in to the police. It is thought the burglar was still inside the premises at the time. The accused had tried to flee but a police operation in the surrounding area apprehended the suspect.

Various stolen goods found inside a sack included cigarettes and a laptop from the shop's security system.

The man has been charged with housebreaking and theft and remains in custody to appear at the Fasi Magistrate’s Court this week.

Meanwhile, Mrs Yu was reported to have regained consciousness at Vaiola Hospital, after the grandmother was hit repeatedly with a stick by another intruder on Thursday night.
