Vaha'i and Luani win Tongan Nobles ByElection [1]

The Tongan Noble Vaha'i of Fo'ui, Tongatapu, and Noble Luani of Tefisi, Vava'u, were chosen as the two new Noble's Representatives to the Tongan parliament, this morning in a by-election held at the Palace Office, Nuku'alofa.

Pita Vuki, the Supervisor for the Election, said that ten of the 16 Tongatapu nobles cast their votes at the election, nine voted for the Hon. Vaha'i and and one voted for Baron Vaea of Houma. The two who abstained from voting were, the holder of the noble title Tungi, (the king) and Noble Lasike. The noble titles 'Ahome'e and Fakafanua have not been bestowed, and the noble titlesof Lavaka and Ata are hold by one person, Prince 'Ulukalala Lavaka Ata.

In the Vava'u Nobles by-election, seven of the eight Vava'u nobles voted, four voted for the Hon. Luani, and there was a vote each for Prince 'Ulukalala and the Hon. Fakatulolo. The Veikune noble title is still vacant.
