A Tongan man (25) who allegedly said he had a bomb in his bag at Nadi International Airport on 23 July has been released after being interviewed by Fiji’s Border Police.

Fiji Sun reported that Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident this week.

“The 25-year-old was questioned and released as the investigation file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for sanctioning."

Reportedly a student, the Tongan who was not named, was transiting in Nadi after arriving from Hawaii bound for Tonga. He allegedly left his bag unattended and it was seen to have a phone device with a light flickering on and off.

“When the officers approached him on the scene, he was alleged to have said it was a bomb,” the police reported.
