Two men are in Vaiola Hospital with serious injuries after an alleged drunken brawl involving a machete and a piece of wood, at a bush allotment in Niutoua on Sunday night 24 July.

Police today confirmed the men, aged in their late 30s to 40s, sustained serious injuries including head injuries. They are reported to be in stable condition.

The incident is reported to have occurred during an argument between the two men who were allegedly drinking alcohol with other men. 

During the confrontation one of the two, allegedly first attacked the other with a machete. Two other men who were in the drinking party then allegedly attacked the machete man who was allegedly hit with a piece of wood on the head.

Police are continuing their investigation into the cirumstances of the fight and have not laid any charges at this stage, said a spokesperson.
