Police look for person of interest in Sopu attack [1]

Tonga Police are appealing to the public for help in finding a young man, aged in late teens or early 20's, of Tongan or Polynesian appearance who might be connected with the attack of a United States Peace Corps staffer on Saturday morning, 16 July at Sopu.
A male offender attacked an American woman from behind when she was jogging on the sidewalk behind a concrete fenced property opposite the Tonga Cable Building, at the Sopu waterfront in Nuku’alofa.
Based on new information received the Police are looking for a person of interest who was seen walking away in a hurry from the Sopu waterfront road and turning left onto the road to Hofoa. He was described as male of Tongan/Polynesian appearance, and looked to be in his late teens or early 20s and was wearing dark green patterned shorts and a t-shirt.
This person of interest is said to have been holding a green towel over his head and across his face.
Police appealed for information from anyone who was in this area at the time and saw anyone acting suspiciously or who knows anything about the attack, to contact Chief Superintendent Tevita Fifita on 7717816 or 922.
The victim had sustained injuries and bruises to her face.
