Three dead in Kolonga crash [1]

A driver and two passengers, including a 14-year-old boy, died when the rental car they were in crashed into a coconut tree early this morning, Monday 18 July. A fourth passenger survived and is in a critical condition.
The crash occurred after midnight.
Deputy Commissioner Pelenatita Vaisuai said the rental car was travelling northeast along Talasiu Road when it swerved and hit a coconut tree on the right side of the road.
The four people were all male. The driver (25), front passenger (44) and right rear passenger (14) had all died on impact while the fourth passenger (21) who was seated on the left rear survived and is in a critical condition
Police allege that alcohol and speeding were contributing factors to the crash.
The process to formally identify the victims and inform the next of kin is in progress before the names are released.
The crash is the second this month with multiple fatalities. On July 2, three people died and one was critcally injured when a car left the road and hit a tree at 'Ahau. Police alleged that speeding and alchol were contibuting factors.
