Diesel price continues increase [1]

Increase in prices for diesel and kerosene will continue from July to August, while petrol remains steady in Tonga starting on Monday, 18 July.

The new retail prices including consumption tax:

  • Diesel 235.59 seniti per litre, 4.92 seniti increase
  • Kerosene 157.33 seniti per litre, 4.90 seniti increase
  • Petrol 235.59 seniti per litre

The Competent Authority stated the petroleum prices for this period are mainly determined by the movement of FOB prices in the Singapore market based on June 2016 average prices of the daily published Means of Platt’s Singapore (MOPS) benchmark prices.

Comparing June to May’s average prices, crude oil increased by USD1.46/bbl (3%) but kerosene and diesel prices were quite higher, increasing by USD 3.12/bbl and USD 3.29/bbl each due to a mild Northern Asia winter which added to the current supply surplus.
