US citizen charged with death of wife in Tonga [1]

A US Citizen was arrested and charged with the Manslaughter of his Canadian wife in Neiafu, Vava’u, the Tongan Police stated this afternoon, 11 July 2016.

The 54-year-old American man and his 56-year-old wife arrived in Vava’u on their yacht, Sea Oak on 26 May and docked at the Puatalefusi Harbour.

They had visas to stay in Tonga until 21 August, but the husband on Thursday, 7 July, reported that he found his wife dead on board their yacht. The body of the deceased has been kept at Ngu Hospital since then.

The Commissioner of Police, Stephen Caldwell said that “as the matter is now before the courts, no further comment at this time.”
