A 24-year-old man from Fasi is charged in relation to the death of a 22-year-old man whom he allegedly hit with his vehicle on Taufa’ahau road in Pea, early Saturday morning, 9 July.

Tonga Police said today the accused faces one count of reckless driving causing death.

"The incident is alleged to have occurred just after 4:00am when he was driving west on Taufa'ahau Road. He reported to us that he allegedly did not see the victim who was walking on the road," said police.

The victim is from Ha’ateiho in Tongatapu.

This is the tenth road death recorded in Tonga since January this year.
