Cabinet rejects PSA petition on salaries [1]

In a decision on Friday, Tonga's Cabinet turned down a Petition by the Public Service Association to defer the implementation of a new civil service salary structure from 1 July 2016 to 1 January 2017.
The Petition was presented by Mele ‘Amanaki, PSA Secretary General, to Prime Minister Hon. ‘Akilisi Pohva on 29 June 2016.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance and National Planning told Matangi Tonga that a move to increase the salary of the Prime Minister to $100,000 per annum was also deferred.
Tonga’s 2016-2017 National Budget, with the new salary structure for Civil Servants was implemented on 1 July 2016.
