Tonga Police have released the names of three people who died after a fatal crash on Hihifo Road at 'Ahau early Saturday morning 2 July.
 
The driver was an off duty police officer Scott ‘Ungo’unga (29) from Kanokupolu.
 
Two passengers who died were Kalolaine Quick (43) from the Heilala Holiday Lodge at Kanokupolu, and Lower Leaving Ma’u (23) from Haveluloto. The threel died when the vehicle crashed into a tree at 4:00am.

The only survivor is Vai ‘Ungo’unga, the driver's wife, from Kanokupolu. She suffered serious injuries and remains at Vaiola Hospital.

Nukunuku Police District Commander Chief Inspector Siofilisi Fifita said the vehicle was driving west on Taufa’ahau Road. They were returning home from Nuku’alofa.

"Police have confirmed that alcohol and speeding were contributing factors to the crash," he said.

Police Commissioner Stephen Caldwell extended his sympathy to the families of those involved in the tragedy.

“Crashes like this are preventable and we all need to do our part to reduce deaths and injuries on our roads," he said.
