Ha'apai Governor charged with reckless driving [1]

The Governor of Ha’apai Mo’ale Finau has been charged with reckless driving causing bodily harm when he allegedly collided with an elderly pedestrian on Hihifo road in Tongatapu on Tuesday, 17 May.

Tonga Police confirmed this afternoon that the accused was released on bail awaiting court appearance.

It is alleged that at around 7:05 am, he was driving a P1790 government vehicle heading east on Hihifo Road when he collided with the elderly man who was walking on the side the road pushing his bicycle.

The accused had allegedly been speeding.

Police said the victim sustained minor injury to his head.
