Australia pledges AUD$30.3 million in aid partnership [1]

A new $30.2 million (AUD) Aid Partnership is to be established between Tonga and Australia following discussions held last week between Tonga's Minister of Finance, Hon. ‘Aisake ‘Eke,and the Australian High Commissioner to Tonga, HE Mr Andrew Ford.
The discussions on April 19 concluded with an agreement to establish a new Aid Partnership Arrangement which parties the parties stated, "will deliver a series of strategic investments to improve economic growth opportunities and reduce poverty in Tonga”.
The positive impacts of Australia’s aid was also noted in regards to private sector development, economic growth, health sector strengthening, quality education, skills development and support for gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.
The arrangement builds on the "2009 Australia-Tonga Partnership for Development agreement" and the "2011 Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Australia and the Government of Tonga on Development Cooperation".
