Third man in customs bribery case, awaits judge's decision [1]

‘Aisea To‘a appeared for his trial in the Nuku‘alofa Supreme Court yesterday January 26, charged with two counts of bribery of a Government servant and attempting to evade import duties on a container holding 600 cartons of Bounty Rum imported to Tonga from Fiji.

He was the third man accused in the customs bribery case involving Hon. Veikune and ‘Amini Tu‘’ivai. His two co-accused were found guilty by a jury on January 25.

‘Aisea who chose to be tried by judge alone, appeared before Chief Justice Robin Webster and gave a testimony.

Mr Justice Webster adjourned his judgment to be announced on a later date. .

The Crown counsel in the trial was Linda Folaumoetu‘i and representing the accused was Tesina Fifita.
