Petroleum prices increase today [1]

Prices for petrol, diesel and kerosene in Tonga for April to May this year will increase starting today, Monday 18 April.
The new retail prices including consumption tax:
- Petrol 212.87 seniti per litre, 14.37 seniti increase
- Diesel 202.33 seniti per litre, 12.42 seniti increase
- Kerosene 137.54 seniti per litre, 11.73 seniti increase
The Competent Authority stated today the increase in both the wholesale and retail prices is mainly determined by the movement of FOB prices in the Singapore market based on last month’s average prices of the daily published Means of Platt’s Singapore (MOPS) benchmark prices.
The freight rate also increased. However, the Tongan pa’anga has strengthened partially offsetting some of the petroleum price increase locally.
On the outlook, crude oil prices had continued its decline in the first week of April. Product prices will follow crude, except petrol prices will depend upon the upcoming Northern Hemisphere summer demand, they stated.
