Metui Finau, a vocalist for the band Spacifix, passed away last week in Auckland after reportedly collapsing during a run with his wife. Tributes are pouring in for the 29-year old whose funeral is scheduled for this Saturday, April 2.
Metui was one of the founding members of Spacifix, a Kiwi-Pacific Islander boy band, which gained strong popularity in New Zealand during the mid-2000s. He is also known for his commitment to motivating Pacific Islander youth in New Zealand.
Spacifix were well known for their stage flair and extravagant appearance. The band performed alongside many renowned musicians including Christina Aguilera, Shaggy, Lucky Dube and Daniel Bedingfield. Spacifix are best remembered in Tonga, however, for their performance at the Lucky Dube and Shaggy concerts held in Tonga in 2006 and 2008.
