Police Chiefs meet in Tonga [1]

The conference is attended by 14 Police Commissioners from American Samoa, Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesian, Republic of Kiribati, Niue, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Federated States of Micronesia, Australia...s Federal Police and Tonga.
Not attending this year's conference are the police commissioners of New Zealand, Nauru and the Marshall Islands.
The theme for this year's conference is "Safe and Secure Communities - Contributing to Peace in our Region", and among issues to be discussed during the four days conference are strategies to deal with Amphetamine Type Stimulants (ATS), Peacekeeping, and Transnational Crime Units that have been established throughout the region. The operation of the units is being co-ordinated by the Pacific Transnational Crime Coordination Centre in Fiji.
The conference meeting in closed sessions is chaired by Sinilau Kolokihakaufisi, the Commander of the Tongan Police Department, and it is the third time it has been held in Nuku'alofa, since its inception in 1970. The keynote speaker is Greg Urwin, the Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum. Also attending the conference are representatives of the Oceania Customs Organisation, Pacific Immigration Director...s Conference, Pacific Island Law Officers Meeting, and the Pacific Regional Policing Initiative.
