Tonga will have the opportunity to market its culture, products and tourism when it takes part in the International Specialized Exhibition EXPO 2017 in Kazakhstan, one of the largest international Expo's to date.

Hosted in the capital Astana, the EXPO will be held from June 10 to September 10, 2017 is expected to attract up to 3 million people from more than 100 countries. It is reported that this Expo event will be the largest of it's kind in Central Asia.

Kololiana Naufahu, who was recently made Tonga’s Official Delegate to BIE (International Exhibitions Bureau) and Tonga's Commissioner Expo 2017 based at the Ministry of Tourism, said  this is a great opportunity to promote Tonga.

The platform of the Expo is tourism so we will be taking our handicrafts, our valuable culture in forms of dancing and so forth and our locally manufactured products to showcase to the millions of people who will visit the event, she said.

Held under a theme "Future Energy," the Expo is also aimed to create global debate between countries, NGOs and companies as well as the public on how to ensure safe and sustainable energy while reducing carbon emissions.

Kololiana said this is would also be a great opportunity for Tonga to look and talk with Kazakhstan in regards to renewable energy.

Tonga had participated in this event in the past.
