It was the highlight of Prue Jackson’s holiday in Tonga when she met Saia ‘Ahau at Crown Prince Tupouto‘a residence, The Villa, on August 21.
Prue is a niece of Lieutenant Ben Masefield, the Commander of a Tongan contingent of 28 soldiers, who was killed at Guadalcanal, in the Solomon Islands in 1942. Saia ‘Ahau was the batman to Masefield and 2nd Lieutenant Taliai. Both of these officers were killed during separate engagements at Guadalcanal, and they were Tonga’s only casualties during the war. The Tongan Defence Force Masefield Base and Taliai Camp are named after the two war heros.
Prue was holidaying in Tonga with her husband Peter, who was the Head Prefect at King’s College, Auckland, New Zealand, when the Crown Prince attended the school. Peter and Prue were visiting Tonga as guests of the Crown Prince.
