A four year-old boy died last night 7 February after sustaining serious injuries from a road accident on Saturday, 6 February at Tu'anekivale in Vava'u.

Superintendent Falakiseni said today the accident occurred on Saturday afternoon when the young victim was playing and riding his bike with other children

It is alleged that a heavy truck was heading back to town on a downhill road and the child on his bike collided with one of the back wheels of the truck. The driver stopped when he saw the victim being flung to the side.

The boy was rushed to hospital after sustaining serious injuries including head injury, and he died last night at hospital.

Falakiseni said an investigation continued, and it was the first road death in Vava'u for 2016.
