Man hospitalised after group attack [1]

A 36-year-old Chinese man is in Vaiola Hospital with multiple injuries after he was violently beaten up by four persons also of Chinese origin during an alleged housebreaking at his home in Pili, Tongatapu on 19 January. 

Tonga Police today said the four accused, three men and a woman aged in their 40s and 20s, had been arrested and charged with housebreaking, bodily harm and damage to property.

The incident is said to have started after a confrontation between the victim and the accused in Tofoa earlier on Sunday, 17 January. This allegedly led to the violent attack on Tuesday, 19 January when the four accused turned up at the victim’s home broke in and beat him up before fleeing.

The victim who was later found was rushed to Vaiola Hospital where he eventually gave his statement to police resulting in the arrest of all of the accused last week.

He is reported to be in a stable condition.
