Second Human Rights Movement for Tonga [1]

A second Human Rights Movement for Tonga was formed in May. The new Kotoa Movement has made a public statement that it was not established to be in opposition to the exisiting Tonga Human Rights and Democracy Movement.

Sangster Saulala the media liaison officer for the Kotoa Movement said that the five main objectives of the movement are: “to up-hold the divine right of man; to support His Majesty Taufa‘ahau Tupou IV who has been annointed by God as the King of Tonga; to preserve the Tongan culture and heritage; to support the common right of all Tongans; to protect the independence of the Kingdom of Tonga.”

The executive members of the Kotoa Movement are: Chairman, Tevita Tu‘inauva; Deputy Chairman, ‘Emosi ‘Alatini, Secretary, Semisi Kailahi; assistant Secretary, Salesi Kauvaka; Treasurer, Dr Pohiva Tui‘onetoa; assistant Treasurer, Sione Hale Toutai; media representative, Sangster Saulala; legal advisers, William Edwards and Stephen Stanton.
