Former police officer faces perjury trial over passports [1]

A 63-year-old Tongan woman, a former Police Officer, has been charged with one count of perjury in relation to the Tongan passport investigation on Wednesday, 27 January.

The retired police officer was arrested after the Tonga Police Passport Taskforce executed another search warrant at Ngele'ia, Tongatapu, yesterday, part of an ongoing investigation relating to forged Tongan passports issued using false documentations.

Police said the accused was released on bail on today, Thursday 28 January to appear at the Nuku'alofa Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 1 February.

Deputy Police Commissioner ‘Unga Fa’aoa confirmed that 12 accused persons had been charged so far in relation to the passport investigation and are pending trial in courts.

The Police are likely to make more charges as the investigation continues.
