Two Tongan musicians, tenor Ta'u Pupu'a, and an instrumentalist Tommy Lee Fonua, are making a name for themselves with churchgoers in the big apple, New York City.

Though they have yet to hit the big time but the Lexington United Methodist Church enjoyed their musical talent on November 20, when Ta'u, accompanied by Tommy Lee Fonua on piano, sang 'Monu e ka ho ha Monu', and 'I'll walk with God'.

Before New York, Ta'u Pupu'a attended college at Weber State University pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree on a football scholarship. He was drafted into the NFL and played for the Cleveland Browns, and later for the Baltimore Ravens. Ta'u was injured and retired from playing football, developing his musical talent, and in 2000 moved to New York to further his vocal studies.

Tommy Lee Fonua was born in San Francisco and raised in Texas. Inspired by his gifted grandfather, Steven Fonua, Tommy Lee developed a passion for music at the age of seven years old. It was this love for music that brought Tommy to the Big Apple. He is the son of the late Toni Fonua and Sini Va'enuku Fonua.

The Sunday service also featured scripture readings by the third secretary of the permanent mission of Tonga to the UN, 'Ilaisipa 'Alipate, and Monalisa Palu. The service was attended by Tonga's Ambassador to the US and Permanent Representative to the UN, H.E. Mrs Fekitamoeloa 'Utoikamanu.
