Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Friday, December 2, 2005 - 18:41.  Updated on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 - 18:19.

Tonga's National Committee for Political Reforms chaired by ...‘Akilisi Pohiva is to submit to the Palace Office on December 6 their recommended amendments to certain clauses of the Tonga Constitution.

Clive Edwards, a member of the committee, said that the proposal is from the national committee and the amendments are what was passed during their Convention for Political Change that was held at the Dateline Hotel on November 19.

Clive said that his earlier proposal for constitutional changes is also included in this document, which they will present to the Palace Office on December 6.

"We want a satisfactory answer within a reasonable time or there would be certain initiatives put into action", he said.

At this point Clive does not want to reveal what "certain initiatives" they are planning but he said they should get a response within two weeks.

He also said there will be no protest marching on the December 5, but the committee and its supporters will meet at Pangai Si'’i.
