Business as usual for new Tonga Telecom [1]

It was business as usual for the former General Manager of Cable and Wireless plc, Jon Morris, when on August 18 he became General Manager of the Tonga Telecommunications International Limited, the new company that is linking Tonga to the rest of the world.

“Same office, same staff, same service, the only thing that is different is the name, it is now Tonga Telecommunications International Limited,” said Jon, who retired shortly after Cable and Wireless ended its operation in Tonga on July 3.

Jon said that the fine details of his working contract with TTIL would not be confirmed until a new Telecommunications Bill was enacted by the House later this year. The new Act will enable the merging of the domestic and the international services under one management.
