An office to deal with all public complaints will be established at the beginning of the government’s next financial year on July 1.

The Deputy Secretary for Cabinet, ‘Eseta Fusitu’a, said that an allocation of $60,000 for the establishment of the office was included the government budget for 2000-01.

The staffing of the Public Complaint Office will consist of a Lord Moderator, Assistant Senior Crown Counsel, Assistant Secretary and a Computer Operator.

‘Eseta said that the extent of the authority of the Lord Moderator on how to deal with complaints had yet to be decided.

“All those details will be formulated later. The first thing that has to be done, once the fund is approved by the House, is to advertise the posts. The successful applicants will then do all the detailed work about job descriptions and the responsibility of the Public Complaint Office.”
