SPC appoints new representative to Fiji [1]

Dr Audrey Aumua has been appointed as the new Deputy Director-General of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), and a representative of the Director-General of the SPC, Dr Colin Tukuitonga to Suva, Fiji.
The post has been vacant since Fekita 'Utoikamanu completed her six-years-term on 13 April 2015.
Dr Colin Tukuitonga said that the Suva appointment would compliment the position of Deputy Director-General, Operations and Management Directorate based at the SPC’s Noumea headquarters, New Caledonia.
Dr Aumua, of Fijian descent is expected to take up her new role on 2 March 2016. She is currently the World Health Organisation Resident Representative, based in Honiara, Solomon Islands and holds qualifications from the University of Auckland in English, teaching and business, and completed a Master of Public Policy from Massey University and a PhD from Curtin University. Her PhD thesis was on international public policy reforms in the health sector in the Pacific region.
Dr Aumua said that she is excited and honoured to be able to join the largest scientific and technical development organisation in the region at a time when Pacific countries and territories are dealing with significant development challenges. “I look forward to working together with SPC colleagues and with other regional organisations to support the region.”
