The Kingdom of Tonga is expected to become the 188th member of the United Nations in September, when its application for membership will be tabled at the United Nations General Assembly.
Tonga applied for United Nations membership in July and it was endorsed by the UN Security Council, but it has to go before the UN General Assembly for its formal approval.
The other two island nations, which are expected to become full members in September, are the Republics of Kiribati and Nauru.
