Woman charged with passport forgery [1]

A 65-year-old Tongan woman has been charged with forgery in relation to forged Tongan passports that were issued using alleged false documents in Nuku'alofa.
Deputy Police Commissioner Viliami ‘Unga Fa’aoa said that a Tonga Police passport taskforce carried out a search warrant at Ngele’ia on 10 December, as part of an ongoing investigation relating to the forged Tongan passports.
The woman who was arrested following the search was charged with two counts of forgery and knowingly dealing with forged documents.
She was released on bail on 11 December to appear at the Magistrate’s Court in Nuku'alofa on Monday January, 11 2016.
DPC Fa’aoa said four accused persons had been charged in relation to the passport investigation and are pending trial.
Tonga Police was likely to lay more charges as the investigation continued, he said.
